iTunes History

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

An interesting “history of the iTunes client”:http://www.tuaw.com/2006/09/14/itunes-from-0-0-to-7-0/. What amazes me is how little it’s changed.

IronChefPython

Saturday, September 9th, 2006

This is some “cool stuff”:http://weblog.infoworld.com/udell/screenroom/ironpython_flv.html.
It’s amazing how much sense the Common Language Runtime makes. It’s really cool how you can just re-implement any Python method in C# and realize a huge performance improvement with very little glue code.

Depressing

Monday, August 21st, 2006

I just discovered today that manipulating photo’s on my 2 year old Windows PC at work is way way way faster than doing it on my G4 Powerbook. The difference is so much so that I can only feel depressed and disappointed.
This is making me really sway towards just building a $1000 windows box for […]

RAW vs JPEG colors part III

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

A few more sample points. Here are the same results from a trial version of Nikon’s new Capture NX, and Capture One LE.

Nikon Capture NX

Capture One

Interestingly, Capture NX actually looks really close to the original JPEG (the brightness is a little different, but the colors seem the closest out of all the conversions I’ve looked […]

WRT54GL

Friday, August 18th, 2006

I finally got back on the wrt54g bandwagon. I was sort of on it before (I had the GS, but it was unsupported at the time, so I gave it to a friend). This time I got the 54GL, solely for the purpose of running 3rd party firmware.
For now, I’m running “DD-WRT”:http://www.dd-wrt.com. It seems like […]

Mac Pro at the Apple Store

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

After Ultimate Frisbee at work today, we stopped by the Apple Store real quick because a co-worker needed to buy an iPod. So I checked out the Mac Pro. Except that there was _no Pro-level software installed!_ What is the point of showing off your Pro level machine if people can’t test the software they’d […]

We’re moving moving, over over, to Noe Valley

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

We’re about half way through our move. Things are going pretty good so far, with most everything but the big furniture pieces and eletctronic equipment having been moved already. All that’s really left is to have the movers help us move the big stuff, and then clean the old apartment and set up the […]

Cost and Worth

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

When I ask myself, “Is this item worth the price?” how am I supposed to answer that question? An even harder question: “Will this item be worth the price in the future?” or “How will I feel about this purchase after I’ve made it?”
I can’t decide on how to decide whether a MacPro is worth […]

Dual keyboard

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

Looking at the Kinesis Evolution got me thinking, what prevents someone from using two ‘mini’ keyboards hooked up to the same computer to simulate the same effect? You’d pretty much have one full keyboard for each hand, but you could position them in any orientation that you want. Would there be weird timing issues between […]

Teeth

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Went to the dentist today for the first time in several years.
Which got me thinking. My parents always used to try to get me to brush my teeth by telling me all the bad things that would happen to my teeth if I didn’t. Showing me their crowns, or talking about how I won’t taste […]
